Everybody Leaving In The Chreaster Parade

Posted in Holiday, Nonsense with tags , , , , , , , on April 8, 2012 by Bob

I will admit that I am not the most rigorous Catholic. I may have mentioned before that I was brought up Catholic, was married Catholic will raise my kids Catholic, I don’t however go to church regularly and I don’t fully agree with a lot of the precepts of the church. On the other hand, since I went to Catholic grade school and junior high, I still have a certain amount of the dogma stuck in my head. Some of the things that still make me twinge are wearing jeans to church, calling priests by their first name, etc. Some other things that get me are the new words. I know I have touched on this before but, some of them don’t even make sense. For example, there is a part where the priest says “Peace be with you” old response “and also with you” new response “and with your spirit”. So, YOU can’t be at peace but your spirit can. There are a number of other things changed as well but that is not the reason of my post. This is about being a Chreaster.

If you don’t know what a Chreaster is, it is someone who only goes to church on Christmas and Easter. These people, and I include myself as one of them, fill the churches to beyond capacity twice a year. I know that today the church was filled mostly with the Chreasters because for the first time in the last few times I have been to church (mostly for weddings and baptisms) the majority of the congregation was saying the old words and not the new ones. This means that a) they haven’t been to church enough since they changed to learn them (like me) or b) they haven’t been to church in so long that they don’t even know they changed.

With all of the extra people, a thought came to mind. Do churches get written up for violating fire codes? I KNOW that there were more people in there than was safe. Churches burn a lot of things during their services. I always thought I would go out in a plane crash or trampled at a concert. I don’t want my obit to read that I died in an over crowded church. I don’t really even see myself being in a church on December 21 this year. Of course, just wait until after communion and then there is no problem with overcrowding. Come on people, I am one of the worst at going to church but I at least stay until the end. If you only go once or twice a year, you can sacrifice the extra 15 min to stay until the end of mass.

At least Tori behaved and so did Alex. Alex slept and Tori watched Abby In Wonderland on the iPod. Yeah, I brought an iPod into church. Well, off to devil some eggs. Have a great Easter everyone!

All I Can Ask Is Why?

Ever since Alex arrived we have been trying to keep Tori’s routine as unchanged as possible. There have been a few things that have changed a little but for the most part we have kept things the same as before. To that end, I took Tori to day care this morning. That has nothing to do with anything other than I felt like telling you all. Anyhoo, when I got home, I had to take Mrs. Voices to the drop in clinic at her Dr. because she has pink eye, in both eyes, and we know no one who has it. WEIRD! Once she got her prescription, we still have a few things we need to get for Alex … crib mattress, diaper bag and a few other incidentals that come with having 2 little ones so close in age.

We were looking at a local baby store and I noticed the prices on some things. Now I know that there are parents that have to have the absolute best of everything. For me, a stroller is a stroller and if you spend a shit ton of cash on a stroller that doesn’t convert or anything is purely status for the parent. The prices for these things are ridiculous. Why in the name of all that is holy does a baby … sleeping in a  crib …  need a mattress that costs $400? They are not going to know the difference. Also, a baby does not even weigh enough to make a memory foam mattress even make sense!

Baby furniture is also a rip off. Most of the furniture is smaller, so why does it cost twice as much as grown up furniture? And clothes … don’t get me started on clothes. An entire unemployment check (well, maybe not that much) for an Easter dress that Tori will wear only once? It would have really been nice if my former employers waited at least another couple of paychecks before they decided to make up reasons to fire me. I wish I could be a Mr. Mom but financially these days, it just isn’t feasible. I promise this will be the last time I bitch about being fired … maybe. Yeah, I am bitter.

Here Comes Peter Cotton Tail

Hopping down the bunny trail. Hippity Hop and all that.

Happy Easter tomorrow/today depending on when you read this. Just wanted to make sure I got on and wished everyone happy Easter. There, I said it twice even. I really like that Kapgar mentioned dead bunnies and posted a great video you can see here.

Pretty much that is all I wanted to say today. Been a very busy couple days with shopping for my niece’s birthday which also happens to be on the same day we are celebrating Easter that I am making a pie and jell-o mold for so … I do have some (hopefully) funny ideas for upcoming posts, AND I will be moving to self hosting very, very soon so (again hopefully) there will be some cool enhancements coming once I move. I will let anyone everyone know before hand in time to change any RSS or subscriptions. (The above paragraph is actually pretty accurate but I am making deviled eggs.)

I have posted about this before, so I won’t bore you all with another tirade on movie and TV remakes. I do however, feel that after the recent apparent mistake of “Clash of the Titans”, and my fear for the upcoming “A-Team”, I need to warn the public of future plans that Hollywood has to rape the past memories that everyone has of past movies and TV shows. So maybe it isn’t me warning but I found this list at Den Of Geek of no less that 75 remakes or reboots that is very informative. Read, enjoy and beware.

Until next time remember … “these eggs are *not* to be fried. Nor are they to be roasted, toasted, or waffled.”
