Rollin Rollin Rollin

Keep that blog a rollin’ … keep that blog a rollin’ each daaaaaayyyy.

For some reason that popped into my head about 30 seconds ago and I had to write that down. I am still trying to keep on my blogging every day to see how long I can do it, but I will admit that I am getting lazy lately. Work is busy, Tori is teething ALL NIGHT, EVERY NIGHT and I have another cold from the child I am sure. I was going to actually blog about how I didn’t feel like writing tonight but then I realized that if I wrote about that, that it would be writing and that it would then be an actual blog entry. Then my head hurt and I decided not to write about that.

Piper is laying on my feet snoring. She is making me want to fall asleep too. Hearing her snore right now, I think I have to apologize to the wife for blaming her for the snoring that woke me up the other night. Sorry wife.

A few minutes until the next episode of Chopped. I have a few ingredient lists you all have sent me, feel free to send any at any time. The first round of my Chopped Challenge will be in the next few days when I can get to the grocery store. I am goign to try to get a few in one trip so I can do a few in a few days. Stay tuned!

Chop Me!

So, I have a brilliant idea. Maybe. I am sitting here watching Chopped before I get up off my butt and start cleaning. I read a few days or weeks ago … I can’t remember … on Kapgar’s page, that he and his wife were going to try making one recipe a week from a bunch of their cookbooks. Or something like that. Whatever the idea was, I liked it, and I have been considering how I would have time to do something similar when I have to pick up Tori every day and can’t stop and buy food all the time.

Watching Chopped, gave me an idea. Of course, I am going to have to get Mrs. Voices in on this but, I think that we should follow the Chopped format. Jackie will think of 4 mystery ingredients for me to work with. Somehow, I will figure out what I am going to do with them and if I have to, stop with Tori on the way home or maybe Peapod what I need. Then I will come up with something using those ingredients without a cookbook. She will also have to think of if it will be appetizer, entree or dessert. I think this could be fun. Now, since I haven’t even brought this up yet with Mrs. Voices, I am putting it out there. Yes, you heard me. Throw out some Chopped worthy ingredients and I will do my best to make a dish and take some pictures of what I come up with. Please keep this in mind, make the ingredients something that I can get though. I don’t want to have to drive all over creation to find them.

I think I am making a really big challenge for myself but, it is already written and the backspace doesn’t work on my keyboard. (it does but that is what I am telling myself so I can’t back out.)

Bring it on and I will see you all in the kitchen!

I Almost Cried

I have mentioned before how I love to cook. I would do far more of it if I had more time and I wish that I could do it as a career. I have also mentioned before how I am torn when I watch cooking shows. I love them but it depresses me to a certain extent. Tonight, Chopped moved me.

They had lunch ladies on the show competing. Now, when I was a kid, the lunch lady was just the hair net wearing grandma who slopped tater tot casserole (which I actually loved) onto your plate. These women were experts in helping school children eat healthy and making sure that children get meals every day. They were very inspirational and it was hard to watch each one get chopped as they all had exceptional talent.

When it came down to the end, I have to admit that I was getting a little misty. The winner’s daughter came out and was so proud of her mom… Anyway, it was inspiring as all heck and nice that they brought these under appreciated individuals into the public’s eye. Food Network redeemed a little of my faith in the human race and for that, I am thankful.

I Accept The Challenge

Not really sure I was actually challenged or not, but I am still calling it that. I was reading my friend Kevin’s blog today and it was all about safety. The biggest safety tip he gave, was at the end of the blog. As it was an “Unrelated Aside”, one would think it was unrelated to the rest of his blog but no. The best safety tip was to try to avoid stuffing this Thanksgiving that was made with White Castle Sliders. Yes, stuffing made with sliders.

Personally, I love sliders. Yes Sybil, I even love them while sober! I have heard before about the White Castle stuffing but have never had it myself. I can only imagine that it would keep the stuffing moist and juicy. It would give it a nice onion flavor. Of course you would not use cheeseburgers or bacon burgers or the pickles. I think it would be good.

I said so much to Kevin and he suggested that there may be a video post in the future of me trying the stuffing. I might even go one further and post the entire creation of the stuffing. From ordering the White Castles, to filming the shopping and then cooking and eating said stuffing. Don’t worry, I will either time lapse or just do a few snippets of the steps. I won’t bore you with a 3 hour video. I will have to convince Mrs. Voices to film and put up with the smell of the White Castles. I can look at it as my very first cooking show! I will try to make my daughter proud.

While we are on the topic of Thanksgiving, can I just say that I make the BEST pumpkin pie? Yeah, I will be the one teaching Tori to cook.

While we are still on the topic of cooking, a rerun of Chopped is on, and one of the chef contestant’s name is “Dickensheets”. Bugga, I hope you see this because that name just screams out to you to scream it out.

And I almost forgot, thanks for the idea for today Kevin!

What Am I Eating?

Watching the Chopped from the other night, one of the competitors was a guy that ran a vegetable commune, or some such thing, and he was talking about how he is all about sustainable and organic things. It made me think about what “organic” really is.

I know that it is something about only natural pesticides and no growth hormones, yada, yada, yada … but, when you think about it, everything on the planet is either “all natural” or “organic”. How can I say this? Well, isn’t everything made from something? When you start to break it all down, even synthetic things have to be made from something natural because everything needs to be made from something. Right?

Since nothing can be created from nothing, or is it something can not be created from nothing, it stands to reason that even the most artificial things, ipso facto, must be made from all natural ingredients. So when something says “all natural ingredients” you can say “DUH!” Even Nuclear bombs are all natural when you think about it. Along with beer, coke (both kinds), pop tarts, fake boobs, incandescent lighting and Slurpees.
