Another Facebook Rant

Posted in Nonsense, Tech Stuff with tags , , , on May 18, 2014 by Bob

I know, EVERYONE complains about Facebook and it does no good. I realize this. I just want to complain, because I am getting old and cranky. Soon I will be growing my mustache to look like Wilford Brimley. I should put him on my death watch list. I am digressing. On to the rant.

The other day, I woke up and pulled up Facebook on my iPhone. I couldn’t sort by most recent updates. They hid it. By default, you can only see what Facebook thinks is important to you. Or what will give them the most advertising dollars. The thing that really irritates me, is that they didn’t tell anyone. At least not that I was aware of. I strengthen this statement by the sheer number of people that couldn’t find it either. Not only do you have to go to a hidden area to get the most recent stories, but you have to do it every time. It is like looking at comments.

If I don’t like Facebook I should leave. The problem is that you can’t leave. It is like Microsoft Office. You have to use it because everyone else uses it. I prefer Word Perfect over Word. No one else in the world does however. Oh well. That is the problem with Facebook. If you don’t use it, you won’t get invited to parties, you won’t find out about people dying, you won’t find out about people having babies, you won’t see amusing images from George Takei … basically you will be unattached from the world as a whole. Maybe that’s a good thing.

Well, no reason to tie you up any longer on a Sunday to to listen to my Facebook hate. Just needed to get it out there. LONG LIVE MYFROOGLE PLUS CHAT HALL CIRCLES! Or something.

On a side note I want to wish my MIL a happy birthday today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

A Few Updates … Or, “Meaningless Words Thrown Together To Have A Post Today”

Posted in Alex, Celebrity Deaths, Nonsense, Tech Stuff with tags , , , , on September 11, 2013 by Bob

I have been pretty horrible lately providing ample humorous content to my many loyal readers. By “lately” I mean the last year or so and by “loyal” I mean the 5 or 6 of you I pay to read my blog. While today’s installment may not be the most entertaining piece I have ever written, I figure that I better get something out there since I added ‘blog writing’ as a skill on LinkedIn. So, as I was driving home, listening to Tangled for the 273rd time (it is Tori’s newest obsession), I decided I would visit a few past posts and give updates on things that apparently mattered to me at the time.

I had a couple of posts on this. While I don’t want to make this a medical blog, I want to assure all of you that I am not going to drop dead anytime soon. I didn’t disclose my numbers before, but 3 key numbers I had to get under control were: A1C = 10, Fasting blood sugar 210, Triglycerides = 489. YIKES! After 3 months of meds and diet I am at the following: A1C = 5.7, Fasting 103, Triglycerides 217. Still need to work on the Tri # but … HUGE improvement! And I have lost over 20 lbs.

I DID add a number of “skills” to my LinkedIn profile. I haven’t had any new connection requests, you can still connect if you would like, and I haven’t had a whole lot of endorsements for my new skills. I am still waiting for those and the numerous job offers to roll in.

I am up to $22.37. Look out Google!

My eyebrows aren’t any bushier. I did have one wild hair the other day though.

2013 “Fun” Celeb Death Predictions

So, I guess it might be a little late to get this one started. I will do better for 2014

No updates on, but I will eventually get to, some OLD items such as my Chopped Challenge and something else I am sure that were so long ago I can’t even find them now.

Well, that’s about it. I just realized it is hard to give updates on posts when I haven’t written that many.

To make up for it, her is a video of the youngest voice, Alex, dancing.

Recommending Endorsements

Posted in Nonsense, Tech Stuff with tags , , , , on August 29, 2013 by Bob

I am on LinkedIn. I have a number of connections. I have also joined a few groups. I occasionally browse the jobs because, you should always be looking for the next great opportunity. Other than that, I don’t do much on LinkedIn. I have recommended a few people, and my resume is up there and job history, the usual LinkedIn stuff.

A while ago, LinkedIn added something called “Endorsements”. Maybe it is called something else but, basically, you list what skills you think you have and people can endorse you for those skills. Now, when I joined a group, I wanted contacts because I was looking for a job at the time. I have a lot of contacts that don’t know me other than the guy who said “will accept all contact requests”. Even these people can endorse me for skills. And they have. Without knowing me. At all.

There is no way to verify whether or not someone actually has the skill they are saying that they have. To go along with that, there is no way for someone to verify that the endorser knows if the endorsee actually HAS that skill or not. People are endorsing people just so that their name goes into as many places as possible. I personally am endorsed for things that I didn’t know that I knew … I think. I don’t think I have endorsed anyone for things that I don’t know if they can do. I might have … just to get my name out there ya know.

I am not sure if LinkedIn is reputable for that or not or if people even look at that, other than to see if their name is out there. I am going to have a sense of humor about it. Kind of like I do about most things. I am going to put skills on there (you can make up your own for cryin’ out loud) and go from there. They will be actual skills. Maybe not business related or things that others consider “marketable”, but they are skills none the less.

You can find me on LinkedIn here. Feel free to connect with me. You can even endorse me if you would like. I can’t guarantee that I will endorse you though unless it is something I know that you are good at … like endorsing people on LinkedIn.

On a side note  Bubble Guppies in one messed up show. I’m just sayin’. I mean, how the hell does it rain    underwater?!?!

The Reviews Are In!

Posted in Nonsense, Tech Stuff with tags , , , , , , on April 24, 2013 by Bob

And they are starting to get annoying. Just like the many memes over the past few months that have now disappeared because they got old, (what others think I do, ehrmagerd, most interesting man in the world, Psy) I think it is time to start getting back to writing real reviews for products on the interwebs.

I don’t buy a lot of things online. I like to touch, feel and see what it is I am buying. I do use the web and retailer sites for comparison shopping and to see if there are any reviews or ratings on the item. If it is a large enough item I can usually find something reliable on Consumer Reports. For smaller things though, or newer items, I find I need to rely on the site that sells it.

Lately though, the reviews online are of absolutely no use. More and more the reviews are being filled up with creative writing essays that while humorous, don’t help me one bit. I understand when it is for something ridiculous like a banana slicer that looks like a banana, but I am starting to see it more and more on real items that actually need good reviews. I don’t care If the lawnmower gets you a lot of women … with it cut my damn grass?

I guess doing that is a meme in and of itself if you go by the definition of a meme. Although I don’t think that Richard Dawkins quite had this in mind when he coined the word.  (look at me sounding all educated).

Not much else to say on this other than please, for the love of god someone PLEASE write some real reviews. Unless it is of this blog … and it is a bad review … then feel free to make something up and write a review that reading this blog made you a god with the women … or goddess with the men … or whatever.

On a side noteI just want to tell everyone that my hedge fund is coming along nicely. I thought I had mentioned this in a previous post but now that I am looking back for the link to it so you know what I am talking about, I can’t find it. Oh well, I decided to start my own hedge fund so I could buy companies left and right. I have $14.38. A rip roaring start. I am always welcome to the idea of accepting investors. Hint Hint.

Commonwealth Edison and The Ugly Towers

Posted in Tech Stuff with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 3, 2012 by Bob

Once upon a time, there was a quaint little town, in a collar county of Chicago, it’s name was Huntley. It was a growing little burg, nice people, nice neighborhoods, the kind of place where you could forget to close your garage door overnight and your lawn mower would still be there in the morning. The homes had beautiful vistas to look at and despite the occasional train going through town, it was as quiet as a wildlife sanctuary. Then, one day, ComEd happened.

ComEd, or Commonwealth Edison, is a company owned by Exelon. A large conglomerate that is larger and more heartless and soulless than ComEd itself. But, I digress. ComEd decided that it needed to bring more power lines through Huntley and connect them to other power lines somewhere else. They decided that they had to run said lines as close to homes as they could, even though there was another available route that went past fewer if any homes, and was probably a more direct route. So now, because of Commonwealth Edison and their inability to plan, think or care, my neghibors and I have high voltage towers being built approximately 200 ft from our back doors. The great news though is that ComEd said that they will pain them the color of the sky so that they will blend in. WTF DOES THAT MEAN?!

We are going to have towers, thanks to ComEd, rising up where beautiful trees used to be. We are goign to have humming wires all night long so we will keep our windows closed so that we will have to use more air conditioning so we will have to pay Commonwealth Edison more in delivery charges. No, we won’t be paying them for the electricity because Huntley switched to a municipal aggregate plan or something that is cheaper. They could do that but they couldn’t stop ComEd from building towers in my back yard.

I am not complaining about this only for me, this is for my neighbors as well. Some of them will have it worse than I will, some will have it slightly better. All of us will have ugly towers to look at all the time in our back yards. I hope all of my neighbors go on Zillow and find out what their home was worth last month. This way, when our property values decline even more, we can send ComEd a bill. I know I will. In fact, I challenge a representative from Commonwealth Edison (one that actually has power to do something) hold a meeting with me and my neighbors, in person, preferably at one of our houses (so they can see what they are doing) to tell us how ComEd is going to compensate us for the loss of money, sleep and health that we will endure because of these towers. That is why I am saying Commonwealth Edison so many times. I want them to see this. They are cowardly. I can guarantee you that NO ONE from ComEd will contact me and my neighbors. ComEd … MAKE ME A LIAR!

I wanted to do a few things in protest: spray paint their truck windows black, super glue the door locks … stuff like that. I didn’t. I hope someone takes my ideas and runs with them though. I will even enjoy being questioned about it. I am just too clumsy to do it myself. I would hurt myself I am sure. Unfortunately, ComEd or Exelon has the Illinois Commerce Commission apparently on their payroll, since they were the ones that approved the route through the residential neighborhood, instead of across empty fields.  More corrupt government. Is it libel or slander if I say that? If I say that it is my opinion that the ICC took bribes to approve the power lines on the route that they did? Meh. Oh well. Signatures, local input and resident blow back apparently don’t mean anything. I bet they are appointed positions and not elected ones.

I had a lot more vile in my brain for this earlier but the margarita mellowed me a bit. What I do ask is that you all help me out a bit. Forward this, like it, do whatever can be done so that this will rise in the ranks of the interweb and Commonwealth Edison might actually see it. As I said, I doubt they have the gall to reach out to the residents along Kreutzer Rd in Huntley who are being told basically “hope you love where you live because good luck selling your house now!” I think that ComEd should offer to pay off our mortgages for us, or at the very least pay off our SSA taxes. Will they?I doubt it since they won’t even pay for a fridge of food when the power goes out.

Speaking of Kreutzer Rd. The little farm house on the south side of Kreutzer seems to be empty now. I think ComEd came in and forcibly relocated the family. I wouldn’t put it past them since the family didn’t want to towers on their property. ComEd probably had them whacked. Is that enough slander to get noticed?

Come on Commonwealth Edison an Exelon Company. Have some balls and heart and do something to help the people you are screwing.
You know the streets you are affecting so I don’t need to give you my name and address. Just get your corporate asses over to the other side of the pond and do something.

Thank you, and goodnight.

A Promise Fulfilled

First, I am going to get it out of the way. No, I didn’t have her on a list. No, I didn’t even think of putting her on a list because I didn’t think she was still relevant. She’s dead. That is my mention.

Now, onto things that actually have a bearing on my life. A while ago I talked about us going for the 3D/4D ultrasound. I promised pictures. I am putting up the one that I like.

I think he looks like me.

Who Is The Master?

Posted in Nonsense, Tech Stuff with tags , , , , , , , on January 19, 2012 by Bob

As some of you know, our American Bulldog Piper, had a tumor on each of her back paws. Yesterday she had them removed. She has her feet bandaged and has to be very careful because the stitches are tight due to the size of the tumors, not a lot of skin to close with, etc. etc. Last night we coddled Piper as much as we could. We have to keep her downstairs so we helped her up on the couch and she slept most of the evening. Not sure if it was the drugs or she just had a long day, but poor piper looked stoned.

When it came time to go to bed for us, we determined that we were nervous about leaving Piper alone to chew her bandages off. So, I stayed downstairs and the plan was to sleep on the floor with the dog. The dog had other ideas.

After about 5 min., Piper decided she had enough of this floor nonsense and hobbled up over me and onto the couch. She somehow grabbed a pillow and put it on top of her paws and rested her chin on it. This is how she stayed the rest of the night. I stayed on the floor, sleeping more or less at HER feet, like a good master should.

She stirred a few times during the night making me think she might be licking or chewing so I kept waking up to check. She wasn’t. She was only shifting and went right back to snoring. My phone alarm went off this morning and I woke up. She was still sleeping peacefully. I once again dutifully got up, got her food, water and saran wrapped her bandaged feet so she could go outside so I could pick up after her.

It’s true. If aliens are looking down on us, they really will be confused as to who actually runs this planet.

So, with all of the SOPA, PIPA and whatever else is going on, I took a look at some of my posts and realize that I plagiarize a LOT. Mostly myself but, I do lift a lot of stuff from places. Not maliciously or anything like that. I don’t make money off of it. My question is though, if any of this passes, do I have to shut myself down if I complain to myself without due process of my own complaints? I thought of this this morning on my way into work. Then I heard Jon Stewart kind of did the same thing last night. Before I can get shut down … enjoy the clip of copyrighted material at the link below. If you don’t hear from me in the next few days, then we know SOPA passed. (sorry for it being a link, I don’t have time today to figure out how to embed in free WordPress again! One of these days I need to switch to self hosting … but anyhoo…)

I Don’t Understand The Math

Posted in Nonsense, Tech Stuff with tags , , , , , , on November 19, 2011 by Bob

This morning I looked at my blog stats, because I am vain that way. I have 28 spam comments and 16 hits. I cleared out the spam to 0. Just now I looked at my blog and I was up to 71 views today (not quite the 750 I had in one day a few weeks ago) but I had 408 spam comments. Now, I understand it is spam and all but, if they were comments, don’t you think that I would have to have views on my blog as well? I should have 400 some views not only 76. Really I would love to get back up into the numbers I was having for a few weeks but all good things come to an end. So must this blog. For tonight at least. We have a big day tomorrow. Unfortunately it is just normal shopping and not even anything fun like Christmas shopping.

Night all. And of course, I have to add this video …

I Love Verizon

Posted in Tech Stuff with tags , , , , , on October 19, 2011 by Bob

Over the years, I have had a number of cell phone carriers. Some are no longer with us, some have merged with bigger ones, and some have changed their names, or all of the above. We have been with Verizon for quite a few years now and I have never really had a complaint about our phones, phone service or the customer service that we have received. Something happened this weekend that solidified my loyalty to Verizon.

Image representing Verizon as depicted in Crun...

We ordered iPhones on the day they were available for pre-order. We got to keep our unlimited data plan since we were grandfathered in. Last Friday our phones arrived. When I opened the box, they each had a summary of our plan banded around them. We are on a family plan so it had which plan each phone was on. As I looked at mine, it said that I had a corporate email and data plan for $44.99 and NOT the regular unlimited plan for $29.99. I was curious as to why.

Saturday we went over to a Verizon store to ask. It seems that I had been paying the extra $15 a month for the past 2 ½ years. YIKES! That did not make me happy. I asked the clerk if I could get changed back to the regular plan and that I really didn’t want to be credited. I didn’t want to be THAT person. After all, it was my fault for paying the extra amount for so long. Granted they signed me up for the wrong thing, but I never checked the bill. I just kept paying month after month after month. The clerk told me that the plan had been changed and we wouldn’t pay the extra in the future. YAY!

Monday, we got a letter in the mail from Verizon. It said that we were on a Corporate email and data plan and that the regular one would be cheaper and to call them. This was curious. If the request Saturday generated this then that was a fast letter. If not, then they noticed it before I did and were trying to rectify it. Cool.

Jackie called yesterday (everything is under her name as the main account holder) and spoke to someone to verify the changes were made. The person she spoke to, knew exactly why she was calling and made sure everything was ok. Jackie never asked for any kind of refund. I never did. The rep on the phone, without asking, offered us one. Dating all the way back to when we started the plan! That was Feb. of 2009! Close to $500! WOOHOO! Now THAT is some GREAT customer service.

I don’t know if there were a lot of people that have called about that, or if people have really raised hell or what. I don’t really care. Whatever the reason, we received outstanding customer service. I am a very happy person because of this and will probably stay with Verizon now for life.
