Do They Know The Meaning Of This Song
Something has bothered me for a while and I need to get it off my chest and be a bah humbug before we get too far into the Christmas season or before I run out of space for this incredibly long run on sentence. I was watching Glee with the wife tonight. It wasn’t really one of their better episodes but still. At the end of the episode they sang Do They Know It’s Christmas by Band Aid. They made it all cheerful and made it sound like it was all happy like Snow Miser or Frosty. It is a rather depressing song when you listen to the lyrics. It was a great song to bring awareness and raise money but, seriously, do we need to sing about bitter stinging tears and people dying and what not. It shouldn’t be in the every year rotation of “happy” Christmas songs. It is sort of like how far too many people don’t realize that Born In The USA is a protest song and not a rally song.
Ok, got that off my chest. Pretty much that is all for today. I do have to say though that I am a little sad there isn’t any snow yet. I really was waiting for Tori to see snow for the first time when she actually can be impressed/surprised/scared by it. Now it doesn’t even look like we are going to have a white Christmas. Yeah, white CHRISTMAS not holiday.

I’ve always wondered why that song was popular around Christmas, too.

Dimples just heard that song yesterday, and bombarded me with questions all through the song. “Did they just say Africa?” “Of course, they don’t know it’s Christmas there – don’t they celebrate Kwanzaa instead?” “Is that a girl singing or a guy?” Sheesh!
